La mejor banda punk californiana ,La banda de punk rock empezó en 1984 en Berkley, formado por Fat Mike, Eric Melvin y un batería que desconocemos (si no estamos equivocados este desgraciadamente murió), aunque pronto entro un batería nuevo Erik Ghint. Estos tres miembros siguen actualmente en el grupo. Después el grupo aumentó a cuatro miembros con la entrada del guitarrista Dave Castias el cual tocó en el álbum "Liberal animation". Pero pronto en 1989 Steve Kidwiler reemplazo a Dave, ya que este empezó a beber demasiado y decidieron prescindir de él. Steve toco en dos albumes "S&M Airlines y Ribbed" pero después abandono el grupo por que no se encontraba satisfecho de la situación de la banda. Debido a este abandono entro como guitarrista El Hefe actual guitarra de Nofx. Esto ocurrió después del álbum "The longest line". En un principio NOFX no tenía habilidades musicales ni ambición, pero su amor por la música les hizo no dejarlo y pronto fueron llamados para hacer unas pruebas por Doug Moody de la compañía Mystic records. Pero les despidieron y tuvieron que dejar Mystic Records, con los que grabaron unas cuantas canciones de prueba difíciles de encontrar y un CD "Maximum Rock'n'Roll." Que es el rey del garage punk. En 1986 (aproximadamente) decidieron hacer un álbum con su propio dinero llamado "Liberal Animation"(1991) que salió publicado en el sello Epitaph aunque estos no pusieron ni un duro en el álbum. Finalmente el productor del "Liberal Animation" (Brett Gurewitz - miembro de Bad religion) decidió preguntarles si les gustaría fichar por Epitaph y estos accedieron por lo que en 1989 publicaron su tercer álbum "S&M airlines". Su próximo lanzamiento fue el álbum "Ribbed" que se publico en in 1990. Después como arriba he comentado Steve Kidwiler abandono y El Hefe se incorporo a la banda. Cuando se incorporo El Hefe fue cuando se incorporo al grupo un nuevo instrumento: la trompeta, ya que además de tocar la guitarra este también sabe tocar la trompeta. En 1992 publicaron dos nuevos albumes " White trash, two heebs and a bean" un álbum de punk rock melódico que salió publicado bajo Epitaph y " The longest line " que fue el primer álbum publicado bajo el sello discográfico Fat Wreck Chords, del cual Fat Mike es propietario. El siguiente lo publicaron de nuevo bajo Epitaph en 1994 y se llamo "Punk in Drublic" que es probablemente uno de los mejores y más conocidos albumes de NOFX. gracias ha este CD NOFX se convirtió en uno de los grupos más importantes dentro de la escena punk.Como no tenían ningún álbum en directo decidieron en 1995 grabar el CD "I heard they suck live". Album que se grabo en directo en el Roxi club de Hollywood, que se publico en el sello Fat Wreck Chords y que contiene canciones variadas de sus anteriores trabajos. Después en el año 1996 se publico el álbum más exitoso, buscado y problemático de NOFX "Heavy Petting Zoo" (Epitaph). No obtuvo la popularidad del Punk in drublic, pero destaco entre los trabajos que habían realizado anteriormente. Hay que destacar la portada del CD en el que sale un tipo tocando la parte delicada de una oveja. En 1997 se publico él "So long... and thanks for all the shoes"(Epitaph) un gran álbum, su ultimo trabajo es "Pump up the valuum"(Epitaph) del que están haciendo una gira para promocionarlo aunque las fechas en las que actúan en nuestro país ya han pasado...
